Marriage…man, sometimes it can be rough, which makes a photo session like this, one of my absolute favorite things to do. We can get so caught up with life after marriage, that we can actually forget to stop and look into one anothers eyes, and remember why we got married in the first place. We work, take care of the house, the yard, pay the bills, hit the gym, cook meals, clean up after meals…sleep a little and then, oh yeah… We are married to another human being. Our marriage needs just as much attention as all of our other daily deeds, except it actually needs way more. Marriage is fragile, and it deserves to be treated with a tender hand and loving touch.
So, you are probably asking yourself, what in the world does this couple and an anniversary session have to do with the marriage talk? Well, it hit me square in the eyes during this session. How much amazing, crazy love there is between married couples when they take care of their relationship. We have the honor of photographing weddings quite often, and do not get me wrong, we love weddings. We love weddings, because we LOVE marriage. If there is a way for us to be a part of another couple’s marriage…nurture, give advice, be examples…we want that opportunity. This photo session reminded me WHY we adore being a part of marriages. Jacki and Andy’s organic and whimsical anniversary session made my heart full of hope that marriages like theirs are all over the world.
To see Andy touch Jacki’s face with such tender care, I knew that it was a touch that only comes after marriage. After the struggles and trials. The tears, the hurt, the celebrations and the laughter. I do not think Jacki and Andy know it, but they touched my heart that day. They made me excited for their future. They reminded me how important it is to stop and stare into the eyes of the one you love. Press your heads together, close your eyes and just breathe.
